I participated in Leslie Saeta's Challenge last year for the first time and had been looking forward to this year's challenge. I learned a lot about myself as a person and an artist last time. I almost decided to not participate until I read Leslie's statement. So here goes a 30 day commitment. Hope you will check on my paintings each day. If you want to see the background before I added the focal point. Please go to my other blog (click on this page under my photo so you don't leave this website or go to:

This is the latest in my series of Nature using webbing, spraying and then completing it with a bird, insect, or animal of some kind. It took me a long time to come up with my French rooster and his hens. The color is not accurate in this image. I need my good camera and daylight to get the colors close. I think I'm getting close to being done. Any comments?
This painting is a full sheet. I wanted to try more neutral color combinations for a change and after several days of viewing the background I remembered my visit to Wildlife Safari with WSO several years ago. I pulled out my photos and did a little more research to come up with this design. The patterns and colors of the giraffe have always fascinated me. Watercolor 300 lb adhered to a 12x12x3/4 cradle and sealed It took several weeks before I began to see a large butterfly in the lower corner which isn't the usual place to begin your design but in this instance I wanted to develop it. I researched many different butterflies to use and decided on specific ones for other parts of the painting. I wasn't going to add the 3rd one in the upper right corner but I did. Probably could have done without it. Any comments? I really liked the background on this painting and knew it would be fun to add a butterfly focal point. I wanted to put just enough of an outline and some iridescent touches to allow it to be seen but not outshine the background. Any comments? As you may have noticed, color is an integral part of my paintings. Years ago, in my Interior Design coursework I found that color is so important that I spent 8-9 months studying about the way color influences and affects us in our daily lives. Anyone who has visited my home knows that there is color everywhere and I am always changing it as new paintings are completed. I wouldn't recommend this approach unless you are showing off a collection on a specific wall. Many of my friends and clients are afraid of choosing colorful art for their homes and offices. When you find that piece of art that you just can't live without, don't shy away from making it the focal point in the room. Please comment if this is helpful. Here are a few tips on how you can make it fit in with your other more neutral pieces.
Which way do you prefer to hang your canvas or cradle paintings or prints--framed or not? I have preferred to frame my aluminum prints, but they can be hung with a special mounting on the back but be sure to add foam core to keep the aluminum from flexing. I've been working on this painting for the past week, waiting for it to speak to me to find that "magic" that I was hoping for like I found in Raising the Nets 1. I feel like I"m almost there. The color is slightly off because our good camera had a problem this morning so we used the Iphone to capture this image. Comments are most welcome and appreciated. I strongly believe in "critique" as a positive always remembering it is a critique of my art not me. So whatever you think could improve this painting -- I would love to hear your comments. Go to my blog to see more details on how it evolved. http://www.dianagnadal.blogspot.com
I'm ready to sign this one. /store/p220/Glass_Wing_Butterfly.html This is my 7th in the series of paintings using webbing and concentrated watercolor pigments. It's getting close to be finished. It is entitled, Glass Wing Butterfly. Comments are most welcome either here or you can mailto:dianagnadal@gmail.com I wanted to paint key moments with favorite cyclists in the Tour de France over the 21 days. I sure was inspired by Vincenzo Nibali who won Stage 2 by attacking right at the finish to win and have the lowest time. He has worn the "Yellow Jersey" now through Stage 5. He was really something today in the rain and across all the cobblestones! I'm glad I started this painting on Day 2. Not the simple painting I intended though..... Below is my finished painting after a few adjustments. We all know that Vincenti Nibali continued to amaze everyone each day of the remainder of the Tour. The Yellow Jersey was worn by him all but one other day! I created 36 paintings on 6"x6"x1/8" AquaBord tiles by placing the webbing in a variety of patterns and then spraying each tile separately with different color combinations of Dr. Ph. Martin Hydrus Watercolors. This gives me a body of work to refer to when creating paintings for my newest Nature series.
I played with different color combinations and patterns over several weeks before deciding on dividing them into 3 12-tile units. These have been mounted on masonite and are ready for framing. Each one has a unique feel and movement. I would appreciate any comments on which one you like best and whether you like them hung vertically or horizontally. I have thoroughly enjoyed this process. |
AuthorSharing my paintings with others is one of the joys in my life. Educating others about how I paint and the media I use is very important and why I wanted to reach out through this blog. Hope you will add a comment about what you see. What else would you like to see here?. Archives
