I love to paint wine glasses and while staying in a Bed & Breakfast in the center of France, our host introduced us to an old English tradition of clinking glasses when you are staying overnight in an establishment like a Bed & Breakfast or in the days when this tradition was created–staying at the Tavern. By the way, we slept very well in this 13th century monastery every night.
The tradition goes something like this: Before retiring the host will offer the visitor a drink and make a toast. Wherein your glasses will be “clinked” so the mixture in both glasses spill into one another. This will give the visitor a restful night’s sleep knowing he wasn’t poisoned by the host.
