From an original watercolor, I love to paint wine glasses and while staying in a Bed & Breakfast in the center of France, our host introduced us to an old English tradition of clinking glasses when you are staying overnight in an establishment like a Bed & Breakfast or in the days when this tradition was created–staying at the Tavern.
The tradition goes something like this: Before retiring the host will offer the visitor a drink and make a toast. Wherein your glasses will be “clinked” so the mixture in both glasses spill into one another. This will give the visitor a restful night’s sleep knowing he wasn’t poisoned by the host.
