Our last stop on our first trip to France before returning to Paris was Avignon. We only had an hour to see this fabulous walled city but the tourist office gave us a map to follow so we could see as much as possible before catching the train back to Paris. What a fun city to visit. The streets are narrow and winding but open up onto a plaza. Every building on this plaza had shutters and the shadows because of the time of day made them extraordinary. I had to paint them. This painting is done in layers based on increasing value while masking off each layer before adding more intense color with fluid acrylic. Once all the tape is removed you can make whatever additions or changes you need. I did make several changes to bring out the "gold" against the purples.
