I wanted to try more neutral color combinations for a change and after several days of viewing the background I remembered my visit to Wildlife Safari with WSO several years ago. I pulled out my photos and did a little more research to come up with this design. The patterns and colors of the giraffe have always fascinated me. Watercolor 300 lb adhered to a 12x12x3/4 cradle and sealed It took several weeks before I began to see a large butterfly in the lower corner which isn't the usual place to begin your design but in this instance I wanted to develop it. I researched many different butterflies to use and decided on specific ones for other parts of the painting. I wasn't going to add the 3rd one in the upper right corner but I did. Probably could have done without it. Any comments? I really liked the background on this painting and knew it would be fun to add a butterfly focal point. I wanted to put just enough of an outline and some iridescent touches to allow it to be seen but not outshine the background. Any comments?

AuthorSharing my paintings with others is one of the joys in my life. Educating others about how I paint and the media I use is very important and why I wanted to reach out through this blog. Hope you will add a comment about what you see. What else would you like to see here?. Archives
